MORT VIVANT

2025 - Paris - Analog photographs - Experimental analog photographs with mycelium

Suspended between the living and the inert, Mort-Vivant is a series of experimental analogue photographs reflecting the artist’s inner landscapes, shaped through collaboration with living matter as both subject and medium. Developed in collaboration with artist Bella Stern, the work incorporates mycelium placed directly onto photographic film and cultivated in a humid environment, allowing it to grow and spread its hyphae across the material itself.

Through this process, the series explores liminal spaces where creation and destruction coexist, each depending upon the other. As in the natural world, movement emerges from stillness, and life remains inseparable from death. Mort Vivant considers death a necessity for transformation, as it creates the conditions for new forms to emerge. It speaks to the importance of letting go of control, accepting death, and trusting what comes after. Reflecting on moments of depression experienced by the artist, the work suggests a way of finding light in the darkest and most empty spaces.
